UCF launches new sexual harassment campaign

UCF President John C. Hitt announced a new university-wide campaign meant to provide more options for victims to report sexual violence in a letter Tuesday.

The “Let’s Be Clear” initiative also increase awareness of resources available to victims of sexual misconduct.

The campaign allows people to text 407-823-6868 to speak to UCF victim advocates about any questions or concerns related to sexual violence.

“UCF Victim Services has long offered confidential support to students, faculty, and staff, who can continue to use the 24/7 hotline, 407-823-1200, for help,” Hitt said in the letter published on UCF’s Facebook page. “However, we know that for many at UCF, texting is a more comfortable form of communication.”

The campaign aims to create and maintain a diverse and inclusive community by taking a stance against any form of sexual violence, according to the letter.

UCF’s Let’s Be Clear website provides help on how to report an incident, advice on how to offer support to victims and phone numbers to several services such as Victims Services, Student Health Services and Student Care Services.

“As we start 2018, let’s all renew our commitment to oppose interpersonal violence,” the letter reads.
