The UCF Police Department sent out an alert to students at 11:26 a.m. Nov. 4 that read “*UCF Alert* Police activity in area of Millican Hall and Library. Stay clear of area.”

The UCF Twitter community exploded, as users shared photos of officers walking around outside of the John C. Hitt Library, Millican Hall and the John T. Washington Center breezeway with assault rifles.

UCFPD tweeted at 11:46 a.m. and said “UCF ALERT UPDATE: Around 10:45am UCFPD received a call about a white male holding what appeared to be a long gun near Milican Hall.”

Six minutes later, an alert was sent to students that said “*UCF ALERT* All clear at Millican Hall and Library. Resume normal campus operations.”

Helicopters were still sweeping the area around noon.

UCFPD tweeted a video of Police Chief Richard Beary at 12:03 p.m. In the video, Beary said that campus is clear that the threat was responded to appropriately.
